The 'Capital Christmas Express' of the 17th November took SR Unrebuilt Battle of Britain No. 34067 'Tangmere' on a run from Weymouth to London. The tour would run via Bournemouth and Southampton to Basingstoke, before diverging to Reading and traversing the Great Western Main Line, arriving at the GWR terminus of Paddington. The outward leg ran into trouble, as 'Tangmere' slipped to a stand on Parkstone Bank, between Poole and Bournemouth. The train had to be assisted by Class 47 No. 47786, which incidentally, had banked the train out of Weymouth, but was detached at Wareham! The heavily delayed outward journey is seen hammering through Micheldever station, running just over an hour late!
