July 20, 2018. After two and a half years, the public still does not know the names of the government shooters who ambushed and opened fire on the vehicle driven by Lavoy Finicum. Recent court proceedings in Oregon indicate the Oregon State Police and F.B.I. seek to prevent lawyers for the Finicum estate from learning the names and identities of the officers who opened fire on Finicum, Ryan Bundy, Shawna Cox, Ryan Payne and Victoria Sharp. At the upcoming trial of FBI agent Joseph Astarita, the government intends to put witnesses on the stand who will speak of the shooters only as "Trooper 1," "Trooper 2," "Trooper 3," and so on. Lawyers such as Roger Roots (who represents Sharp and Payne) and Morgan Philpot (who represents the Finicum estate) need to know the names of the Defendants in order to sue and recover from them. However, the government seeks to conceal the names.
