(1 Mar 2011) SHOTLIST 1. Afghan President Hamid Karzai and UK Prime Minister David Cameron entering news conference 2. SOUNDBITE (English) David Cameron, UK Prime Minister: "We (UK) have led the process in the UN security council drafting that resolution and we put in place over the weekend, travel bands asset freezes, everything we can to isolate and starve that regime of money and of support. The next stage in our planning must be, tragically, planning for the humanitarian difficulties, potential humanitarian crisis there could be." 3. Cutaway of Karzai and Cameron 4. SOUNDBITE (English) David Cameron, UK Prime Minister: "We have to plan for every eventuality. It is not acceptable to have a situation where colonel (Moammar) Gadhafi can be murdering his own people, using airplanes and helicopter gunships and alike, and we have to plan now to make sure if that happens, we can do something to stop it and that's why I said it's right for us to plan and look at plans for a no fly zone, and that's why I've asked the chief of the defence staff to do that, and yes we should also be making contact with, getting a greater understanding of the opposition forces that are now in Benghazi and in control of quite a lot of the country, otherwise trying to step up our contact with them, so that we can get to know them better and what their intentions are." 5. Cutaway of Karzai and Cameron 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Hamid Karzai, Afghan President: "By 2014 Afghanistan will be responsible, and entirely responsible for the protection of its people and territory. But that does not mean that there will be a complete removal of the international presence in Afghanistan. Certain countries, some of our partners, like the UK, the United Kingdom, Germany and others will continue to have a supportive role with Afghanistan, in the training of our armed forces, in building capacity for us and also in the form of partnership, both economically, in terms of investments, in terms of continued nation's relationship, that will continue." 7. Karzai and Cameron leaving news conference STORYLINE UK Prime Minister said in a news conference in London on Tuesday along with visiting Afghan President Hamid Karzai that he is doing everything he can to isolate Moammar Gadhafi's regime in Libya. "We put in place over the weekend, travel bands asset freezes, everything we can to isolate and starve that regime of money and of support," Cameron said. "It is not acceptable to have a situation where colonel (Moammar) Gadhafi can be murdering his own people, using airplanes and helicopter gunships and alike, and we have to plan now to make sure if that happens, we can do something to stop it," the prime minister explained. "That's why I said it's right for us to plan and look at plans for a no fly zone, and that's why I've asked the chief of the defence staff to do that," he added. Libyan rebels and anti-government protesters have repeatedly called on the international community to impose a no-fly zone over Libya to protect rebel-held areas from attack by Gadhafi forces and mercenaries working for him. Meanwhile, Karzai spoke about his own country, underlining that by 2014 Afghanistan security forces will be fully responsible "for the protection of its people and territory." "But that does not mean that there will be a complete removal of the International presence in Afghanistan. Certain countries, some of our partners, like the UK, Germany and others will continue to have a supportive role with Afghanistan," he told reporters.
