TRENDING WARMER; STORM CHANCES NEAR Fair skies will prevail once again as partial sunshine combined with persistent easterly winds will allow temperatures to peak around 70 degrees. Broken clouds will become more noticeable overnight as the boundary stationed to our south the past couple of days shifts north as a warm front before lifting by the next morning. Still have my eyes set on a wave of energy riding along this boundary around midnight. A small cluster of thunderstorms could pop up more north of the Quad Cities during that period before calmer skies take over for Wednesday. Area of low pressure associated with the departing warm front will slowly develop around the central Plains. Winds will then turn southerly and pull more summer-like air ahead of it. By afternoon, temperatures will easily warm into the 80s. This warm air will extend into Thursday before the next round of storms approach from the west. The more moist-laden air will significantly increase our thunderstorm coverage later Thursday where a few of these storms could produce some hail and strong winds blowing down from the storm itself. The passage of this front by Friday morning will not only put an end to the storm threat but our summer-like warmth as well. Quieter more spring-like air will headline the upcoming Mothers Day weekend. Still see a few showers popping in late on Sunday. Hopefully, this weatherman will be able to bring a gift to all moms out there and erase all the rain that day. Time will tell. -James Z.
