After World War II, a group of German prisoners of war are mistakenly sent to a Soviet camp run by the cruel commander Pavlov. This camp, run exclusively by women who have lost their loved ones during the conflict, treats the captives with cold hostility. Only the doctor Natalia tries to maintain a semblance of dignity. As she develops an ambiguous relationship with one of the prisoners, Natalia must accomplish a perilous mission: to identify the SS officers hidden among them.
