BEAUTIFUL BHUTAN: HIKE TO THE GOLDEN TEMPLE, PUNAKHA From the city of Punakha, the Golden temple is a long hike on a trail that begins at a suspension bridge and goes through rice fields and forests. Up, up, up to a mountain top. In Bhutan, the local name of the Golden temple is Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. And by the way, a chorten is a shrine which is dedicated to Buddha. It took nine years to build the four story Golden temple. The Golden Temple was built by the Queen Mother of Bhutan - to protect Bhutan from evil forces and help bring peace to the world.
