Oh Beautiful For Spacious Skies is a song composed by Michael W. Smith! I figured out the chords in 12-TET by ear, and then created my own arrangement here. Every equal temperament from 1 to 24 is used, but I mostly think of it as using 15-TET, 19-TET, and 22-TET more than anything. The characteristic progression I have added is in the chorus, where the initial resolution to the tonic chord actually goes to the relative minor instead (with a fourth on top! get it - July 4th). Because the microtonal tuning in 19-TET and 22-TET may use 2 degrees for a "half step," I also use "0-1-2" in the bass line in both tunings, where V/vi leads to vi via an intermediate step. Don't take this as being overly patriotic/colonial or anything - I just like the tune and wanted to put a cool microtonal spin on it. There's something exciting about new territory, whether it be land you've never seen before, or xenharmonic intervals! I tried to finish this by 4th of July, American Independence Day, but there was just no chance. So here it is 20 days later. According to science, this is exactly what the Hideaway server wants to watch next (unless they've been using "microtonal" as a buzzword this whole time... and what are the chances of that?)
