6560 Theres no question about it. (Start film) Roanoke had one of its biggest weekends in years as the first annual Harvest Festival went off without a hitch. (Show film) Capping the three-day affair was a football game between VPI and Virginia. VPI won the contest after some questionable officiating. But a crowd of about 25 thousand packed Victory Stadium well ahead of game time. They were treated to a fine show. Governor Almond and Mrs. Almond were in attendance as Confederate flags fluttered in the stiff breeze. The parade which wound its way into Victory Stadium was a mile long - and colorful. Most eyes - prior to game time - were on Miss America-Mary Ann Mobley. She was proclaimed Harvest Queen the First. With Miss America was this years Miss Virginia, Miss Barbara Ann Guthrie. She was honor attendant. At half-time Miss America, Miss Virginia and some beautiful attendants emerged from a large pumpkin. The Junior League of Roanoke and VPI Athletic Association sponsored the big event.
