UI Stead Family Children's Hospital Kid Captain 2011: Ty Buffington

Born 15 weeks early, Ty and his twin, Lindsay, were transported immediately after birth to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UI Stead Family Children's Hospital. It is common for very premature twins to have health complications, and Ty spent his first 448 days of life in the hospital. He came home at 15 months old, breathing through a tracheotomy and attached to a ventilator. His tracheotomy was removed about a year ago.
