UI Stead Family Children's Hospital Kid Captain 2012 - Blake Derby

Blake was born with a genetic disease and has needed multiple surgeries that prevent him from participating in the sports he loves. In February 2011, he underwent surgery to re-form his rib cage because it started pressing into his heart and lungs. Through it all, Blake never complains, even though his most recent surgery means that he is no longer able to play football. He still plays baseball and was the manager for the varsity football team at his high school. Blake also is active in a range of other school activities, including show choir.
