Does AB NDP stand up for women? Female voter shoved at media event

At the Deborah Drever announcement on Friday, a Calgary Bow constituent was pushed by someone who appears to be Shane Bostock, NDP MLA and Deputy Whip Stephanie McLean’s significant other. The announcement confirmed the return of Drever to the NDP caucus after a string of social media gaffes and her appearance on an album cover simulating a sex assault prompted Rachel Notley to boot her from caucus. And the constituent was not pleased about the news. This was a closed event for media and constituents shouldn’t have been let in. But the shove from the man wasn’t necessary. I talked to Trevor Marr and Rene Dejardins, who are with Stand Up For Alberta and who were also there, independent of the resident of Calgary Bow. They say that the police were called on behalf of the protestors and not the attendants inside. But the media was quick to speculate that the police had arrived to have words with the protestors and didn’t bother to get the full story. Why was Bostock at a private event? He’s not a media representative and he’s not a government official. What’s more is that Bostock is a self described feminist, while Drever is a self described social justice warrior that wrote a Bill advocating for women. And claims she was a victim of bullying as a result of her online behaviour – all while this incident was unfolding right outside the room. Is this how the NDP are building feminism? The NDP and its supporters were so quick to point the finger at conservatives, and in particular Wildrose conservatives, when alleged death threats were made toward the Premier of Alberta. Will Rachel Notley be as reactionary as Brian Jean and call for calm for both members and supporters of the Alberta NDP regarding this physical altercation at Deborah Drever’s announcement of her return to caucus?
