Dancers from Na Hula Kupuna O Kaunoa participated, and Paradise TV produced the video. #playuke #ukulelemusic #Hawaiianmusic #hula Mele Kalikimaka was composer Robert Alex Anderson’s most enduring hit in 1949. Anderson was born in Hawaii in 1894 and composed many songs in the hapa haole genre (Hawaiian style music with English lyrics). These songs came to represent Hawaii in many parts of the world and is still heard today in distant places as well as at home in Hawaii. As the story goes, one day a secretary at a company Anderson was working at told him there was no Hawaiian Christmas song. That inspired him to write “Mele Kalikimaka.” Anderson was friends with Bing Crosby. Crosby asked if he could record the song and it became a huge hit for him when he recorded it with the Andrews Sisters the following year.
