The body of Oleg Shaichat, 20, who disappeared July 21, was found buried in northern Israel on Monday. Hundreds of police, soldiers and volunteers had been searching for him. Shaichat was in uniform and armed when he was last seen by a fellow hitchhiker travelling in a car near the biblical village of Cana in Galilee, on his way home to a nearby Jewish satellite of Nazareth, Israel's largest Arab city. The disappearance came as security officials said they had had intelligence warnings of Palestinian militants' intentions to kidnap Israeli soldiers. In the West Bank on Monday, Israeli soldiers clashed with a group of Palestinian and foreign protesters along the security fence near Anen village. Israeli soldiers fired rubber-coated bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Five protesters were injured. The group was protesting against the building of the security fence between Israel and the West Bank, which residents of Anen said would take 12-thousand dunams (approximately three-thousand acres) of their land. The fence will be one of the main issues at the meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and US President Gorge W Bush in Washington on Tuesday. Israel says it's building the fence to keep Palestinian attackers out. The path cuts deeply into the West Bank in several places to include Jewish settlements. Since the Palestinians claim all of the West Bank for a state, they demand that construction be stopped. Meanwhile in Gaza, hundreds of Palestinians marched to demand that Palestinian prisoners be released from Israeli jails. The Israeli cabinet has approved the release of about 540 Palestinian prisoners. But Palestinian officials say that of the 7-thousand-700 prisoners Israel is holding, three-thousand could be freed with no threat to Israel's security.
