The directorial debut of of the master of giallo, Italian thrillers, and legendary filmmaker, Dario Argento, The Bird With the Crystal Plumage was a huge box office and critical success, launching Argento's directing career and being widely known as the 'Italian Hitchcock '. This film helped set the template that all Gallo films would follow, although many came before it, business one of the earliest and majorly successful. This was also the first in his 'animal trilogy', followed by 'Cat of Nine Tails ' and 'Four Flies in Grey Velvet'.
