Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary - Is it a worthy one day trip near Pune?

Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the smallest wildlife sanctuaries in India and also the only sanctuary where you can self drive your vehicle to explore the entire sanctuary. The sanctuary is just 15 kms before the famous Mayureshwar Asthavinayak (Ganapati) temple if it is accessed through Pune Solapur expressway and one can plan for both the places in one day trip from Pune. The Sanctuary is mainly covered with grasslands but a vast amount of area is also having flora and fauna. Animals like Chinkara (dear), horses, wolf, grey hyena and many migrating birds can be seen. Recommended time to visit is early morning or evening when animals and birds come out of the forest land, otherwise the entire sanctuary is good enough to visit any time of the day and year to spend a good amount of time within the nature. Many people consider this place as one day picnic spot near Pune.
