Day Hike to Lost Twin Lakes in the Cloud Peak Wilderness, Bighorn National Forest, Wyoming

July of 2015 our family does one of our best day hikes ever! We take on the Lost Twin Lakes Trail in the Cloud Peak Wilderness of the Bighorn National Forest. This is a 12 mile return trip and we climb 1,270 ft from the trail head to the Lost Twin Lakes at 10,520 ft above sea level. This is a spectacular location. The only other folks on the trail that day were the Assistant State Archaeologist and her friend who were camping out at the lakes and investigating flint knapping sites. A little learning about Cody points for the kids! The girls had just turned 9 and 12 that summer and this was a very serious hike for them. We worked our way up to longer distances in the week before by hiking one day and resting the next. Longer and longer hikes each time. The last mile was a bit tough in the twilight with tired legs.
