Labor has made gender the “attack point of the budget” by focussing on an apparent divide between men and women coming out of the Coalition’s budget speech on Tuesday, according to Chris Kenny. Mr Kenny said the treasurer’s budget didn’t leave “many losers” after big tax cuts and increased spending featured prominently. “But one area people are focussing on is child care,” he said. “We had free child care for part of the pandemic response, it is back to normal now, but some reckon free child care for many Australians is the way to go. “Strangely, gender, has become the attack point of the budget. That is how bizarre our times have become. “In this age of identity politics, it is the divide between men and women that Labor wants to focus on.”
