USC president agrees to step down over gynecologist scandal

The president of the University of Southern California is to step down over a long drawn-out gynecologist scandal. The president Max Nikias has been criticized for failing to protect female patients from repeated sexual misconduct by the gynecologist Dr. George Tyndall. The Los Angeles Times reported that complaints about Tyndall's misconduct started in the early 1990s. Nearly 20 students - including three former Chinese students - filed lawsuits for damages against Tyndall last week. The Chinese consulate in Los Angeles expressed its deep concern over the scandal, and requested that the university take serious steps to protect Chinese students from illegal acts. USC has begun selecting a new president, but has not given a date for Nikias' departure.
