Watlington Level Crossing

Wednesday August 9 2023 at 15.21. The 13.42 Kings Cross to Kings Lynn (15.30) train. Came here exactly 10 years ago when it had old tired barriers    • Watlington Level Crossing   which were certain to need replacing. I therefore expected this time to find that it had been upgraded to a half barrier crossing. Why that hasn't happened isn't clear but obviously the Level Crossing Manager knew it should be an AHB crossing so what did he or she say at the planning meeting? The minutes of that would make a very interesting read. As you can see at the start, Watlington Station is just along the line in one direction and the line becomes single track in the other. It's very disappointing to find that people continue to endure 4 minute waits here purely due to Network Rail mismanagement. The light boards are ancient. Screw on edging strips are very rare.
