Unfortunately, we hold on the best we can.” 13. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Oleksander Dugyn, 55, local resident: “We underestimated the plans and position of Russia in relations to Ukraine. Various of person looking at view of Kyiv STORYLINE: War-weary Ukrainians in Kyiv reflected on Sunday on the new year following a night of Russian missile attacks. Shortly after midnight, sirens rang across the capital followed by a Russian barrage of missiles that interrupted the few celebrations Ukrainians could have at home. Walking in a park that overlooks the city, local residents took advantage of a quiet morning on Sunday. Hours earlier blasts from incoming rockets and drones marked the skies over Kyiv. Evheniya Shulzhenko recently moved to Kyiv from Kharkiv, which has experienced some of the heaviest fighting during the war. She said her New Year celebrations had been subdued as she thought of the soldiers on the frontline away from their families. And she added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's end-of-year speech had lifted her spirits and made her proud to be Ukrainian. Nearby Oleksander Dugyn and his family were walking in the park. They had spent the New Year with friends - but instead of fireworks he said the family had observed from their windows the sparks caused by Ukrainian air defence systems. "We already know the sound of rockets," he said. "We know the moment they fly, we know the sound of drones, the sound is like the roar of a moped. We hold on the best we can.” AP video shot by: Renata Brito =========================================================== Clients are reminded to adhere to all listed restrictions and to check the terms of their licence agreements.
