The WWE Champion is a world heavyweight championship created and promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE on the SmackDown brand. The current champion is Drew McIntyre, who is in his first reign. The title was first awarded to Buddy Rogers after he defeated Antonino Rocca in the finals of a tournament on April 25, 1963.
