'This New Year's Eve is sad' Ukrainian soldiers at frontline trenches vow to 'have a go' at Russians

Ukrainian soldiers at the trenches of the eastern frontline welcomed the New Year with sadness and resolve. Russia shelled Ukrainian towns across a long stretch of the frontline from north to south last Friday, trying to advance near Bakhmut and Avdiivka. The two towns are the focal points for Russia to take all of Donetsk region in the east. A fresh round of explosions rocked Kyiv less than an hour into 2023. Ukrainian military claimed it had shot down 45 Russian drones overnight as the country rang in the New Year. Earlier in the evening, President Zelensky said in his new year message that Ukrainians would fight until victorious.
