Thai Police Use Water Cannon at Anti-Govt Protest

Security forces in Thailand used water cannons to disperse protesters in Bangkok, Thailand, Saturday, March 20. 👉Many protesters are part of a student-led anti-government movement called REDEM, short for Restart Democracy. Demonstrators are demanding new elections, amendment of the constitution and an end to intimidation of government critics. Protests sparked in Thailand last year pose the most serious threat so far to Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha. He took power in a coup in 2014 and then retained it in a 2019 election widely seen as rigged, to all but guarantee his victory. Some protesters have also called for reform of the monarchy, a move that has significantly raised the political temperature. (AP)
