Police turn water cannons and tear gas on protestors in Thailand
Subscribe to ITN News: http://bit.ly/itnytsub Thai police used tear gas and water cannons to repel protestors as government buildings across Bangkok came under siege from anti-government demonstrators on Sunday. The city-wide protest has been organised as a week-long 'people's coup' to overthrow Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and end her family's influence over Thai politics, which has lasted over a decade. Sunday was declared 'V-Day' by the more than 30,000 protestors rallying against the government. At the city's Government House police in riot gear gathered behind concrete blocks, firing water cannons and tear gas into the amassed crowd to keep them from coming into the compound. Cannons and gas were also deployed at the Metropolitan Police office, where demonstrators attempted to drag away the concrete barriers in front of the building. In response to the protests the Thai government has imposed a night-time curfew, asking people to avoid leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary. Report by Laurie Blake.
