His name is Jesus, and he brings joy to the world! Scripture: Isaiah 35; Luke 2 Wonder Truth: Jesus is Our Joy ------ Foundational Building Block WHO? Isaiah the prophet gave the tribe of Judah many warnings about their coming judgment. But he also foretold many prophecies about the coming Messiah. The last 27 chapters of Isaiah’s book contain prophecies about Jesus—both about His first advent and His second coming. WHAT? Jesus fulfilled the prophecy, “the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped” when He came to earth. He brought physical healing to many people and will bring spiritual healing to the world when He returns. WHERE? The Israelite nation was divided into two, separate nations. Judah was the southern nation. And at this point, it was being advanced on by the Assyrian army. It was soon to be conquered by Assyria and the people taken into captivity. WHEN? Jesus was born more than 700 years after Isaiah prophesied His birth. The people of God were told that the Messiah would come, and they waited a very long time to see that prophesy come true. WHY? God had a plan. His plan was to redeem His people and His world broken by sin. God created out of love, and He sent Jesus out of love so that restoration and redemption would come to us all. ----- Our kids will have many opportunities to explore the nativity story, ask questions about Jesus’ birthday, and celebrate Immanuel—God with us—our baby King throughout their faith journey. But one could argue, even more compelling than the day itself was the long-expected nature of Messiah’s birth. God had promised a King. The prophets had foretold His story. The weeks leading up to Christmas Day can be a time to enjoy the vibrancy of anticipation, to know that something worth waiting for is coming, and yet to wait it out. Isaiah teaches us to measure waiting differently: that waiting with anticipation requires both trust and truth. In this series, kids will celebrate Advent in a new way as they discover the prophecies about Jesus from Isaiah in the Old testament and the fulfillment of those prophecies in the birth of Jesus, as well as the promise of His return. #SundaySchoolCurriculum #ChildrensCurriculum #ChildrensBibleCurriculum #EarlyChildhoodlearning #childrenschurch #childrensministry
