Laal at Jashn-e-Faiz - Farida/Tum Apni Karni Karguzro (Live)

As part of the celebrations being carried out in Pakistan to honour the socialist poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz on his 100th birth anniversary, the Karachi Faiz Centennial Committee organized a night of concerts titled Jashn-e-Faiz (Celebrating Faiz) in the city on November 19. Laal was one of the musical acts invited by the hosts from Lahore to perform at the concert. These concerts and associated seminars on Faiz and his works are the last of the activities held to mark the Faiz Birth Centennial this year. As Laal's lead vocalist Shahram Azhar is currently in the United States, its lead guitarist Taimur Rahman has temporarily taken on vocal duties for the group. The first song that Laal performed was 'Farida', a homage to all the Sufi saints who are venerated in Pakistan in general and Baba Ghulam Fareed in particular. In Taimur Rahman's words "When the Taliban attacked the shrines of Rahman Baba, Data Sahib, and Abdullah Ghazi Shah, slaughtering hundreds who had gathered for alms or to pray, Laal felt obligated to not only defend the progressive aspects of sufi thought but to discover them for ourselves." Laal band also gave a sneak peak to an unreleased track in the works. An adaptation of Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem 'Tum Apni Karni Karguzro, Jo Hoga Dekha Jayaiga' (You Do What You Want To Do, We Shall See What Happens!). Laal Pakistan would like to thank Mohammad Anas Ahsun Mallick for his kind and valuable cooperation and assistance without which these videos would not have been possible. Send Laal Pakistan your video clips of Laal's live performances and your video might get uploaded onto Laal's official channel. Senders shall be duly credited. -Laal Pakistan, the official YouTube channel of Laal, the people's band.
