TTM Scale the Mountain using Fly Guy Attempt

I try to use fly guy manipulation to get the Scale the Mountain star on TTM. This would probably save time if it could be done efficiently. Basically, I'm trying to lure the fly guy to the top of the mountain so I can twirl into the star, that way I don't have to go through a complicated goomba cloning procedure. I'm fairly certain it's doable if we use the lateral movement technique, but that would take a very long time (probably wouldn't be faster than the goomba clone strat). Thus, I'm only interested in whether this strat can be done quickly. Unfortunately, I wasn't quite able to bring fly guy high enough. You see, to raise him properly, I need to get under him while he's deactivated to put him into lunge mode, then get above him, and then reactivate him to have him lunge up. However, once fly guy is where he is at the end of this video, there's no way to go from under fly guy to above fly guy without passing through his activation range, which means we can't really raise or move him anymore.
