Pokemon Fire Red Omega - No Level Part 12: Blaine

   • Pokemon Fire Red Omega - No Level Part 1: ...   Read the complete rules of the run here I found Blaine to be the hardest gym leader in this hack. He has at least Pokemon who have insane coverage + ludicrous power with their main STAB alone and therefore each of them needs a whole team, literally, to be taken down. I suppose the experience would be different if your Pokemon could level up normally (then you'd have a competent water-type). Blaine's Magmar enjoys boosted base stats and at its humongous level, Fire Blast as well as Thunderpunch and Cross Chop covers a huge number of potential switch-ins you could think of. But that's not all - Blaine also uses Typhlosion and Blaziken and those have a crazy gimmick move in this hack, Blast Burn. It's been adjusted to 50% accuracy, 170 base power and burns 40% of the time, no longer requiring a recharge. While Snorlax with Thick Fat can tank two of these and not fall prey (unless the burn kicks in), it's still much too risky, and Blaziken has Sky Uppercut to keep Lax alive. I found that within the Pokemon/level limitations of my run the only way out is to setup and sweep. And Arcanine does happen to be a perfect Pokemon to set up on. Its only two offensive moves are Extremespeed and Fire Blast, both with 5 PP. Aerodactyl resists both, has Pressure to speed up the PP expenditure twofold, and can Fly to essentially run Arcy out of FB's PP in one single move. Then Gyarados can switch in with Intimidate and tank it some more. There's just one problem - Arcanine's other two moves are Rest and Roar, and it WILL use Roar when you try to set up. So what's the setup sweeper this time around? Last time in Lavender when we were in a similar "hopeless" situation it was Porygon, the last Pokemon one would expect to sweep. This time it's Electrode - fast enough to outspeed everything, and has Rollout and Sharpen! To make the most out of Rollout, we need to kill Arcy with on the 2nd turn - this way, +6 Rollout will OHKO all of Typhlosion (switching in first because of Earthquake), Solrock (also has Earthquake) and Blaziken (this thing's a monster). Rollout cycle will be over when Ninetales switches in and the best thing to do at this point is to blow up in its face. Gyarados using Leer and chipping with Secret Power are two good strategies to making sure Arcanine dies on the 2nd Rollout and not earlier. Soundproof ensures Electrode isn't PHazed away by Arcanine's Roar. That leaves just Magmar, and it happens to be strong enough to solo the remainder of our team. I utilise Intimidate switch-ins to reduce Cross Chop's power and then use Snorlax who attacks repeatedly with Body Slam, Choice Banded for extra power. Getting a Leer in with Gyarados helps, but may not necessarily happen due to Magmar's Thunderpunch. Aerodactyl is actually outsped, so I assume Electrode would be too (but it can't overpower Ninetales so I can't check). Corsola and Dragonair (with its elemental resistances) are two other good Pokemon to take on Magmar with. Blaine is usually a joke in vanilla but here he'll cause a lot of trouble. One of the two "super hard" battles until the E4. Challenge playlist:    • Pokemon Fire Red Omega - No Level-up Run (...
