Medical officials said one person was killed and several passers-by were wounded. The Israeli military said it ordered an airstrike that hit a vehicle carrying Hamas militants involved in weapons production. It had no further details, and said it was checking into the report about a second blast. The Islamic Jihad militant group said the first explosion hit one its cars near Islamic University in Gaza City, but claimed that the members of their group were not inside at the time, having left it idling while they went to buy some food. Two passers-by were wounded, hospital officials said. Police called on people in the area to leave, for fear an explosive device might be inside the vehicle. The second blast blew up a Volkswagen minivan carrying two unidentified people. Hospital officials said one of the passengers was killed, and the fate of the second was unknown. An unknown number of passers-by were injured. Palestinian security said the car was struck by a missile fired from an Israeli drone. Also on Saturday a Israeli tank shell struck a house and a car near the northern Gaza town of Jebaliya on Saturday, slightly injuring two militants and a 14-year-old boy, medics said. The car was struck just east of Jebaliya. There were no serious injuries reported, although the two militants were later brought to Al Awada Hospital in nearby Beit Lahiya for treatment. A spokesman for the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) said the military had aimed and fired at militants launching rockets toward Israel. In a separate, earlier incident, a 12-year-old boy was shot and critically injured in Jebaliya, while standing outside his house, hospital officials said. Ayman Abu Mahadi, was shot in the head during a fire exchange between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian militants in the area, but the army said it had no no information on this incident. He was brought into Camal Adwan in Beit Lahiya, before being transferred to a different hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery.
