TOPIC: DO YOU PRAY WITH JOY AND CONFIDENCE? First Reading: Jonah 4: 1-11 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 86: 3-4, 5-6, 9-10 Alleluia: Romans 8: 15bc Gospel: Luke 11: 1-4 Jesus' disciples ask him for a prayer and as a response, He invites His disciples to call upon God as children call upon a loving parent, trusting in the knowledge that they belong to God and that He wants for them what is good and life giving. Jesus’ prayer and His subsequent teachings reinforce this invitation. If human parents, with all their faults, know how to give their children good things, how much more will the heavenly Father give good gifts to His children who ask of him, including and especially the gift of the Holy Spirit? The disciples were invited as well to pray that God’s name be hallowed or kept holy. In effect, we ask God to hallow His own name by living our lives in such a way that His name is held in honor. The petitions that follow in the Lord’s Prayer flesh out what this means. When God’s name is hallowed and God’s kingdom comes, there is daily bread for all, forgiveness is practiced, and God delivers the faithful from the time of trial. This is the 1265th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings. [NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Raymond Bucu, Head of CFC Gateway Evangelization, as he brings us today's reflection. All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
