This part of the project is special because it is being built right in the riverbed - something very rare in India. Gap-2, which stretches 1.75 km across the Godavari river, is crucial to completing the dam along with Gap-1 & Gap-3. The dam is being made strong by layering rocks over sand & clay, so it can withstand floods. Officials said the work is moving quickly. Once finished, the Polavaram Project will provide irrigation for farmers, drinking water for families, and hydropower for millions of people.
