TRANSCRIPT: I'm Dr. Allison Brashear, I'm professor and chair of the department of Neurology and co-director of the Neuroscience service line. I decided to become a neurologist because I was very interested in putting together the puzzle of the brain. I'm passionate about following abnormal lab results, making sure patients get test results, treating patients like they're your family. I think if we can do one thing, we can treat patients the way we would want our families to be treated. Coming to Wake Forest, I've made new friends, new patients, and relationships. And most of my patients I see every three months for repeat injections and so we really get to know each other and that's really quite personally satisfying. Being a family member of a critically ill patient has really changed my perspective. It really makes you realize how important communication is with the patients, how important follow up is with the patient, how important it is [doing] the little things that you do. The phone calls that you return, the messages that you give, the time that you give at the bedside. All those things are incredibly important when we take care of patients. Something that's key to model for our medical students and residents. The thing that differentiates Wake Forest Baptist Health from other institutions is the people, the passionate, caring people who will go that extra mile to make sure that you, the patient, the caregiver, the physician- all are able to do things in a timely manner with the best quality and the best outcomes. I have a 17-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter and a rescue dog and we really like to do things together. We like to travel.
