Mamre is located on the ancient route between Hebron and Jerusalem. According to the Biblical historical account, Abram pitched his tent here, under an oak tree Gen 13:18.The Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord.
