The Palestinians were hurling stones at police patrol jeeps and burning tires in the streets. A Jerusalem police spokesman said that the clashes erupted after Palestinian youths finished school and added that five protesters were detained by police. Local Palestinians said the clashes erupted following an early morning raid in the area of the camp during which arrests were made. According to Israeli police, 11 people have been arrested in Shuafat, which straddles the Jerusalem municipal boundary, over the last two days. Police said the arrests were connected both to crime and to stone hurling that it says has been occurring over the past few weeks. According to Israeli police spokesman Mickey Rosenfled the arrests were a part of a routine operation which has been going on for a couple of days.
