Medical staff treating one youth injured in protest on street STORYLINE: Israeli police on Saturday dispersed a crowd of Palestinian youths who tried to burn Danish flags in protest at the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad deemed offensive to Muslims. Several dozen Palestinians gathered outside the Old City's Damascus Gate in Jerusalem, some carrying Palestinian flags, Israeli police said. Israeli officers fired stun grenades, and the crowd broke up without burning any Danish flags. A unit of Israeli Border Police were seen chasing Palestinian protesters until they fell. They then beat and kicked them while on the ground. At least one young man was seen receiving treatment for his injuries on the street. Several Palestinian youths were detained. The drawings, first published in a Danish newspaper and later reprinted in publications across Europe, have sparked outrage across the Islamic world. In recent weeks, Palestinians held mass protests, threatened to kidnap Europeans in Gaza and chased foreign observers out of the West Bank city of Hebron.
