Ted Cruz suffered the brunt of Donald Trump's attacks possibly more than anyone else during the 2015-16 Republican primary, and during a recent town hall event for The Texas Tribune, Cruz admitted why he and so many other Republicans are afraid of Trump. Cruz said that if you criticize Trump, he'll turn around and "punch you in the face," although Cruz meant that metaphorically and not literally. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this. Recently Republican Senator, Ted Cruz sat down for a town hall event with the Texas Tribune. And one of the questions that Ted Cruz was asked was why are you? And of course other Republicans, why won't any of you guys criticize Donald Trump? I mean, hell Ted Cruz bore the brunt of Donald Trump's attacks during the 2015 Republican primary worse than anybody else. He insulted your entire family tree, Ted, your wife, your father implied that your father was somehow involved with the killing of Kennedy. And then you fell in line like a good little lap dog. So tell us, Ted, in your own words, why were you so afraid to go after Trump? Well, folks at that Texas Tribune town hall, Ted Cruz told us exactly and clear as day English. Why he and so many others are so afraid of Donald Trump. Here it is. Why are people reluctant on the Republican side to criticize Donald Trump? It's a, it's a number of things. Number one, unlike many people in politics. If someone criticizes him, he turns around and punches him in the face. I mean, it's not complicated. And you have, I saw a lot of my colleagues. I saw meetings where he'd get up and, and different Republican senators would criticize me. He'd spend the whole meeting, just like slamming him with a stick that people respond to incentives. People notice that, you know my view Now it's important to keep in mind with Ted Cruz says, Donald, Trump's gonna turn around and punch you in the face. He doesn't mean physically, right? He he's speaking. You know, metaphorically, Donald Trump is gonna come and tweet mean things at you or, oh, spin the whole meeting, making fun of you. Oh no. How am I ever going to recover from a 75 year old man? 76? What, how, how old he is from a SEPTA Arian calling me names. Oh God, what are we in middle school? That, that is the reason Republicans are so afraid of him. Not because he's gonna use his money to come after you. Not because he's get just because like, oh, well I don't want him to make fun of my underbite. Well, I don't want him to make fun of the fact that I'm bald or overweight. Oh no. What do I do? So you turn tail and run and just do whatever the hell he wants you to do because you don't want be made fun of you don't want him to publicly attack you. Why? Because you don't have a staff that can come up with some good singers, some good one liners to shoot back at him. I mean, when you're talking about Donald Trump who he'll turn around and he'll punch you in the face, y'all know that, well, probably shouldn't even suggest it, but maybe sometimes some people should just get punched in the face. Right? I mean, we in American history, um, I'm sure you've probably seen the, the old drawing, the caning of Charles Sumner. I mean, it's not outta line for senators to just beat the hell out of people that insinuate things about them and make up stories about them or cross them and do them wrong. So, you know, it's, it's part of America's established history, Ted. If, if you didn't want Trump to punch in the mouth, maybe you should have thrown the first punch. You ever think of that? no, you didn't because you're all a bunch of spineless cowards. And again, look, I'm not actually saying, I think they should fist fight each other. That would be the weakest little, uh, they're cowards. They're wimps, they're woos. They're whatever words you want to use to mean that. But again, you gotta think for a moment, these guys have staffers, right?
