In one of his most legendary films, Surrealist auteur David Lynch (1946-2025), chronicles the intense emotional journey of a complex, lonely man and the dedicated surgeon who changed his life. John Merrick (John Hurt) was born with a horribly disfiguring congenital disease, and suffered the humiliation of being a sideshow freak. Only when London doctor Frederick Treves (Anthony Hopkins) rescues him does Merrick begin to regain the life of dignity and respect that everyone deserves. Based on a true story, the critically acclaimed, Oscar®-nominated film was Lynch's second feature-length film after the cult classic Eraserhead (1977). Shot in gorgeous black and white by the celebrated British cinematographer Freddie Francis, and Produced by Mel Brooks, The Elephant Man has earned its place in cinematic history and remains one of the director’s most visually stunning works, THE LADIES IN THE RADIATOR Performing a selection of Lynchian songs and themes to honor an artist who understood music’s capacity to “make your heart burst until tears of happiness flow out of your eyes.” As our late, great David Lynch said, “there is always music in the air.” We aim to pluck the notes from the skies to transport you to the many weird worlds he gave us. “The Ladies” is an event-specific project by Western Massachusetts-based pianist and songwriter Anna-Claire (of the bi-coastal Tarantula Arms) and violinist and improviser Jenifer Gelineau (of Stella Kola). Joshua Burkett & Lau Nau have been laying trails of singular beauty for decades and the combination of their aesthetics create a true mind meld as complimentary as softly falling snow lit by the first light of dawn. Subtly swirling magical elements twinkle and undulate and slowly suck the listener in deeper and deeper. A fragile, melancholic aura transcends the poignant and insular sound world, and evokes a camera panning back to slowly reveal a vast landscape of wintry yearning in which heartbreak and reverie calmly intermingle, both create an extremely comforting bath of sound. Lau Nau (Laura Naukkarinen) is a Finnish sound artist and musician whose multi-disciplinary endeavors also include film scores, compositions for theatre, dance and choral performances and multi- channel sound installations, as well as her passion for presenting live scores for silent films. Joshua Burkett is a musician, writer, illustrator, painter, and naturalist and has been a quietly guiding light of the Western Massachusetts underground music community for the past 30 years... He has many previous duo collaborations under his belt, having worked with the late, great Ed Askew, releasing a duo album with the phenomenal Tucker Zimmerman in 2020, his electronic project TARP with Conrad Capistran and others. Beginning in the mid 1990s, he released solo material on his own Feather One’s Nest label, including the masterpiece Gold Cosmos, which featured both Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance and Pat Gubler of P.G. Six. Spirit of Orr Records recently reissued Owls Leaves Rustling, Burkett’s 1995 solo debut, along with testimonies from Thurston Moore, Chris Corsano and Wolf Eyes’ John Olson.” – Dusted Magazine
