Speaker Pelosi Gives Remarks in Support of the Food and Fuel Act

Today, the Democratic House is taking another strong step to bring down crucial kitchen table costs – at the pump, in the grocery store and across the board. Russia’s outrageous and unprovoked aggression toward Ukraine is driving up prices – here at home and all over the world. Putin’s Price Hike is exacerbating the skyrocketing costs weighing heavy on our families. Since Russia began its saber-rattling against Ukraine, gas pricesin many places have jumped by$2 a gallon. Meanwhile, the World Bank reports that global food prices in March and April spiked 16 percent over the two months prior. Our Lower Food & Fuel Costs Act does precisely what the name suggests – and in three major ways. This bill brings down costs for farmers in the field, it bolsters competition in the meatpacking industry and it will help make cheaper, cleaner homegrown biofuels more widely available. Today’s action to lower food and fuel costs is the latest manifestation of House Democrats’ unyielding commitment to fight inflation. Lowering costs for our families remains Democrats’ top priority – so that we continue our nation’s historic economic recovery in a way that leaves no family behind.
