Desperate Measures is the ninth mission in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign. It takes place in the Lubyanka Building, the KGB headquarters in Moscow, in November 1984. The mission begins with CIA agent Russell Adler contacting KGB Colonel Viktor Reznov, who has been working undercover for the CIA for nearly a decade. Adler tells Reznov that his team is close to finding the Soviet sleeper agents who have infiltrated the US government, but they need a list of the agents' names. Reznov agrees to try to get the list from the KGB archives, which are located in a nuclear defense bunker deep beneath the Lubyanka Building. Reznov infiltrates the bunker and begins searching for the list. However, he is discovered by the KGB and taken prisoner. Adler then contacts another CIA asset inside the KGB, Major Yuri Kravchenko. Kravchenko agrees to help Reznov escape, but he warns Adler that the mission is extremely dangerous. The player takes control of Reznov as he tries to escape from the bunker. Reznov must fight his way through hordes of KGB guards and navigate through a maze of tunnels and corridors. Along the way, he must also complete a number of puzzles and challenges, such as disarming traps and hacking computer systems. Eventually, Reznov reaches the surface and is rescued by Adler's team. He then hands over the list of sleeper agents to Adler, who is now one step closer to stopping the Soviet plot to infiltrate the US government. Optional Objectives The mission also has two optional objectives: Loose Ends: Kill Richter, a captured CIA agent who is being held in the Lubyanka Building.
