N. Korea confirms 5th nuclear test

That was believed to be the case after a magnitude 5-point-0 seismic tremor was detected this morning near the North's nuclear test site. Devin Whiting reports. About four hours after a five-point-zero magnitude tremor was detected from North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear test site,.... Pyongyang confirmed in a broadcast that it had tested a nuclear device. The reclusive state made the confirmation through its official Korean Central Television at around 1:30 p.m. South Korea time saying it has "successfully" conducted a nuclear warhead test. "Through this nuclear test, artillery units of the Korean People's Army have re-confirmed the capability and force of a standardized nuclear warhead to top on a ballistic rocket." Defending the test,... the North claimed no radioactive material leaked from the explosion site and that it caused no environmental harm. In the TV report, the North said it has standardized its nuclear warhead,.... which will enable it to produce more powerful weapons. KCTV went on to say that the nuclear test was a response to sanctions led by the U.S. and its allies…. and that Pyongyang will continue to develop its nuclear weapons as a means of self-defense.
