Why LASIK vision quality is WORSE: Small Optical Zone vs pupil size

One of the problems with refractive surgeries like LASIK/PRK/SMILE/ICLs is that they create a permanent Optical Zone (area receiving full vision correction) much smaller than the large optical zone that glasses and contact lenses provide. The human cornea is simply too thin to surgically reshape it into a large enough optical zone to avoid vision loss without removing so much tissue that the cornea fails to hold its shape entirely resulting in post-LASIK ectasia.
