More than 3 thousand people, who were forced to flee the insurgency waged by Boko Haram, have returned to their homes in northeastern Nigeria. The return of residents from the town of Damasak in Borno state follows the re-opening of two major roads in the area. Damasak is about 200 kilometers away from the Borno State capital, Maiduguri. It is one of the worst hit towns that fell under the control of the Islamic militants in late 2014. The insurgents were pushed out of the town by the Nigerian army in July.
