THE WILD BUNCH Jesus did not choose the best looking, the most talented, the most educated group of guys, they were not the most likely to succeed. Jesus chose 12 ordinary, sinful, insecure people just like you - just like me. Jesus chose a few fisherman, a tax collector, an accountant, and a political activist. Jesus nickname 2 of the guys sons of thunder. This wasn’t because they were born during storm. Their reputation for wild living preceded them. But that is how Jesus’ disciples, were known. They were rough-hewn guys—amazing, colorful characters. They would not back away from a confrontation. In fact, they might even have looked forward to one. They could be very aggressive. And they also could be very insensitive. The Sons of Thunder (Mark 3:17). James and John, You don’t get a nickname like Sons of Thunder for no reason. On one occasion, when the people in a village of Samaria were not responsive to the message of Jesus, it was James and John who wanted to call down fire from heaven on them. When Jesus spoke about His own death and about how he would be betrayed and then handed over to the Gentiles to be mocked, spit upon, scourged, and ultimately killed, James and John blurted out, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask. . . . Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory” (Mark 10:35, 37 NKJV). Was that a good time to bring this up? It would be like saying, “Really? Could I have your car?” to someone who just found out they had one week to live. But God transformed them. And at the end of their lives, these men, who were known as Sons of Thunder, became known for something else. “IMPORTANT” Jesus teachings only make us stronger - WE ALL WANT TO GET STRONGER IN OUR WALK WITH GOD!!! PETER Matthew 18:21(NLT) 21 Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” Peter he was pretty smart here and had the answer Peter thought seven times should cover it. 22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! - 490 TIMES??? ARE YOU SURE??? This explains when you forgive someone you feel good after you've forgiven them. And the opposite takes place when you don't forgive. FORGIVENESS IS STRONG - IT IS STRENGTH. NOT WEAKNESS - JESUS IS STRONG - GOD IS LOVE SAME STORY IN LUKE Luke 17:4-5 (NLT) 4 Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.” 5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.” … “Give us more faith”. FAITH WORKS BY LOVE Galatians 5:6 Faith which only works by love. JESUS TEACHING ON FAITH - PRAYER AND FORGIVENESS INTERTWINED. Mark 11:20-27 (NKJV) 25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” JESUS IS SAYING GUYS I WANT YOU STRONG IN THIS WORLD Peace, Sleep and Rest - Bible Scriptures Isaiah 32:18 (KJV) 18 And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places; Psalm 4:8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord,make me dwell in safety. Proverbs 3:24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Psalm 3:5 I lie down and sleep;I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. FOR THE KINGDOM
