I revived my 2015 MacBook Pro by replacing the battery, fitting an NVMe drive, and installing Linux — and after a solid week on Ubuntu, I decided it was time to go distro hopping. In this video, I install Zorin OS and put it through its paces to see if it’s actually better than good. Zorin OS is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution designed to feel familiar to Windows and macOS users, but how does it really perform on ageing Apple hardware? From thermals and fan control to everyday usability, screen recording, office software, app availability, and even Geekbench scores — I take a proper hands-on look. Along the way we cover: Installing Zorin OS on a 2015 MacBook Pro Fixing CPU thermals properly with macfan Using Ventoy for easy distro hopping LibreOffice (yes, it’s there 😄) Software management without living in the terminal Fastfetch vs Neofetch htop vs btop Battery optimisation with TLP Zorin Connect (AirDrop-style file transfers) Browser performance and video playback General polish, usability So… is Zorin OS better than Ubuntu? Or does it simply land solidly in the good category? Spoiler: that’s not a bad place to be.
