Curing Heroin Addiction with Skin Implant?

Medical experts are urging the FDA to approve a new way of treating opioid addicts through the use of an implant which would deliver medicine for months at a time. The implant is about the size of a small matchstick and delivers daily doses of buprenorphine for six-month periods. Doctors are hopeful that the implant could help ease the national epidemic of drug overdoses. The federal health authorities recently reported that the number of opioid overdose deaths in 2014 was the highest on record. The advisory panel voted 12 to 5 to recommend approval.The FDA often takes the advice of its advisory panels but does not have to.
