Cold sores are caused by a virus called as Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1.There are two types of Herpes Viruses, type1 and Type 2.Type 1 causes a cold sore and it is also called as fever and it occurs on the angles of the mouth and the nasal region. Usually in the facial area they erupt. Cold sores are contagious disease, quite common in general population.
