The metal god himself, Rob Halford of the legendary Judas Priest is famous for his wide and powerful vocal range. While his famous head voice technique is not as strong in recent years, his lower range has only gotten better and there are occasional surprises in the high department as well. With a career spanning 40 years he has demonstrated a wide gamut of emotions and styles. 1. 0:00 - Strong B4's from "Parental Guidance". 2. 0:18 - Unusually chesty singing around C5 from "Rock Hard Ride Free". 3. 0:32 - Sustained C♯5 from the obscure yet awesome "All Fired Up". 4. 0:42 - Melodic, almost mournful singing from the classic "Beyond the Realms of Death" topping off at a sustained C♯5. 5. 0:54 - A classic note here, sustained D5 from the aggressive "Rapid Fire". 6. 1:16 - Powerful D5's from "Freewheel Burning". One of my favorite Priest songs. 7. 1:39 - Sustained B4 with a short C♯5 followed by a short E5 and a sustained E♭5 from "Come and Get It". 8. 1:53 - Clean singing up to E5 from "Saints in Hell" followed by a grittier take on the same note. This clip showcases how controlled he can be up there especially in the 70's. 9. 2:08 - Powerful E5 with heavy vibrato from the Point of Entry bonus track "Thunder Road". 10. 2:20 - A few F5's and E5's from the epic "Blood Red Skies". One of Halford's best performances. 11. 2:41 - Gritty singing from "Hell Patrol" topping of at two sustained F♯5's 12. 2:56 - A famous line from "Victim of Changes" with a short G5 and sustaining F♯5 and E5. 13. 3:06 - Brutal singing from later in Halford's career in "Fetish". Strong Eb5's, F5's, and a G5 here! 14. 3:31 - A classic cadenza from "Run of the Mill" with sustained E5's and a G5. 15. 3:59 - Another classic cadenza from the legendary "Dreamer Deceiver" with a bunch of G5's and then a sustained G♯5! Insane. 16. 4:18 - Primal scream from "Ram it Down" topping at G♯5. 17. 4:26 - Two sustained screams from "Savage" first an F♯5 and then an A5! 18. 4:42 - An A5 and a few F5's from an awesome live version of "Devil's Child". 19. 4:49 - From one of the heaviest songs of the 70's, a layered scream topping at B5 in "Dissident Aggressor"! 20. 4:58 - Very unexpected B5 from a 2001 live version of "Sad Wings". An octave higher than the studio version! 21. 5:08 - Halford's highest notes. B5 and a brief C♯6 from a 1984 live version of "Love Bites". Now on to the lows: 22. 5:13 - Deep sounding 3rd octave singing along with some B2's and an A2 from "Dreamer Deceiver". 23. 5:30 - Light singing down to a sustained B2 in the Fight song "In a World of My Own Making". One of Halford's most emotional performances. 24. 5:50 - Strong B♭2's from the sprawling epic "Lochness". 25. 6:04 - Solid B♭2 amidst strong 3rd octave singing from "Exiled". 26. 6:17 - Sustained A2 in the backing vocal of "Human Crate". 27. 6:24 - Strong A2's and a few brief F♯2's from "Till the Day I Die". One of Halford' better performances for lower notes. 28. 6:39 - Really solid melody singing down to G♯2 from "The Four Horsemen". 29. 6:52 - Halford sounding almost unrecognizable in "Last Rose of Summer". A solid B2 and two brief G♯2's here. 30. 7:04 - More emotional singing from "We Own the Night" one of my favorites of his solo work. Solid B2's and a few shorter G2's here. 31. 7:22 - Dark singing from the doomy song "Death" including two strong F2's followed by a disappointing A4. 32. 7:44 - A weirdly mixed passage from "Hellrider" one of the most badass Priest songs. Bottoms out around strong F2's. 33. 7:56 - A few strong E2's from "In the Morning" amidst breathy 3rd octave singing. 34. 8:10 - Gravelly low singing down to E2 from "Monsters of Rock". Quite an anomaly for 80's Priest. 35. 8:17 - Unexpected slide down to D2 from "Immortal Sin". 36. 8:25 - Strong E2's from the Two (his industrial project) song "Shout" with a slide down to C2 at the end of the clip. 37. 8:35 - Halford's lowest singing, a number of slides down to C2 from the Fight song "Beneath the Violence".
