Can I Survive 100 Days on a Raft in Rimworld?
In this RimWorld adventure, we follow the harrowing tale of Lowtide, a warrior who lost his entire tribe when a mysterious storm destroyed their fleet. Now he's stranded on a wooden raft in the middle of the ocean with nothing but the wreckage of his former life around him. Will he find a way out of his predicament or will he join his people under the waves? Challenge Setup: I want to preface this by saying I’m sure there’s an easier way to get things started, but I’m not the best when it comes to that. That said, here’s the way I did it: First, you want to start on an island using the Island Biomes mod. I chose a desert island. Then you enter dev mode and cover everything in OCEAN water. Be sure not to touch some of the shallow ocean water along the edges of the map. For some reason if you cover everything in deep ocean tiles at the start then animals won’t spawn in, even if you re-cover the area in shallow ocean water. Next, enter God Mode and use pontoon bridges to create your raft and the foundation of the wreckage you want sprawled about. You can also place some shallow ocean spots (submerged sandbars) around to make things more interesting. Be sure to add some starting supplies to your raft, especially cloth and wood. You’ll also want to scatter some enticing supplies around your pawn, some just out of reach. Just don’t over do it. There should be a few areas far into the ocean where there’s really good supplies, or maybe even a means of escape. I’m sure you’ll think of something cool! Challenge Rules: Some of the mods I used gave me access to certain things right away, such as a sushi table, flippers, etc. It’s up to you how immersive you want this to be. For example, if you allow yourself to make flippers too early, then it greatly decreases the difficulty of the challenge. To make this technology more rewarding, I gave my pawn a random 1000 research tech to work towards as a substitute for the flippers. I did the same thing for animal riding. But hey, it’s your world, your pawn’s just living in it! For animal riding, you can go to the mod settings for Giddy-Up, and add or remove what animals can be mounted. For planters and chinampas, I only “gained” the ability to recreate them once I finally found one at sea. Overall, this challenge is a lot of fun, just don’t forget to build those planters!
