Republican senators in the US fail in their bid to ensure pay for essential federal workers as the longest government shutdown in US history continues. Former British soldier Robert James Perkis has been arrested over allegations he murdered a young woman in Kenya more than a decade ago. The body of 21-year-old Agnes Wanjiru was discovered two months after she disappeared in March 2012. Perkis denies the charge.
