Be safe during this storm season! - Hurricane Preparedness is key!

Palestine, Texas— The City of Palestine and Anderson County Emergency Services are monitoring the approaching weather due to Hurricane Laura and making preparations should we experience severe weather. At this time, we are advising citizens to prepare responsibly for a night of severe weather, but not to panic. High winds and rain are anticipated in the area, which may result in downed trees and other emergency situations. We recognize that volunteer assistance is vital when dealing with the impacts of severe weather, but we are urging strong caution when approaching or attempting to remove downed trees and other debris. If you or someone you know has damage from the storm and needs assistance or if streets are blocked, please contact the local Palestine Police Department's non-emergency number at 903-729-2254. Any time electrical lines or gas lines are involved with storm damage 9-1-1 should be contacted immediately. There is an increase in local traffic as southeast Texas residents flee the coast. If you encounter evacuees who need assistance or direction, please instruct them to dial 2-1-1. Please be patient and helpful to anyone you encounter seeking refuge in our community. The Compost Facility hours of operation will be adjusted according to conditions.
